Thunderstorm Remedies
As the saying goes... April showers bring May flowers.... but perhaps your dogs anxiety won't let you get past the word showers. Showers = thunderstorms. Possibly your dogs #1 arch-nemesis . But hopefully with a few of our tips and tricks you can help your pup better handle Heaven's Bowling Tournament in the sky.
I have been told not to "baby" my dog because then they may behave that way to get attention. It's a legit fear - you can't just say "buck up" and you certainly don't want to punish your pup because they won't understand and most likely it will make their anxiety worse. So here are a few of our recommendations....
1) If you can, start training when they're just a puppy. Start by associating loud noises with treats.
2) Let them hide - its normal canine behavior in the wild to locate shelter. Table = cave.
3) Crate training is a great idea too because they will recognize it as their safe zone. No matter the situation, when in their crate they will feel secure.
4) You could try to desensitize your pup by playing on a CD the sound of thunder. Start with a low volume and then gradually work the volume up. Don't forget to include treats!
Here are a few of our favorite product recommendations:
1) Calming Chews
2) Thundershirt
